Contact MeredithI have always loved working with my hands and making beautiful objects. Many years ago I began collecting decorative papers that caught my eye on my travels without a clear idea of what I wanted to do with them. Once I retired from my work as a library administrator and had time to think about what I’d like to do next, I started volunteering in a Library Preservation Laboratory. There I learned the skills I needed to make books, boxes and portfolios. Making miniature books led to designing several different styles and shapes of boxes, which I then covered with elegant Italian, Japanese, Nepalese and Indian decorative papers. Recently, I have discovered some interesting papers from Zimbabwe and have added them to my collection of papers. All of my boxes are completely handmade from Davey Board, also known as binder’s board. The board is acid free and I use only preservation quality materials in my work. One box led to another and in 2007 I set up a small business to show and sell my boxes. It gives me great pleasure to make them. I am delighted to exhibit my work on my website, so that others can enjoy my work, learn more about the beautiful papers I am using, and view a large sample of my work with ease. I hope that you will find my work pleasing. If you are interested in purchasing one of my boxes, please contact me by phone or email (518-449-5882 or MButler@nycap.rr.com.) |
